Margaret Brown and John Fitzgibbon

Margaret was the youngest child of Edward and Margaret Brown, and would have been about eleven years old when she came to Canada with her parents, brothers and sisters. She probably came to Perth County with the family in the 1850's, and most likely lived with her mother and some of her siblings on one of their farms. Eventually Margaret met and married John Fitzgibbon and farmed on the north half of
Lot 31 of 8th concession of Ellice Township. She died in Ellice Township on April 7, 1895, the second of her siblings other than her brother James to die. Although there is no tombstone in the Kinkora Cemetery, there is a record of her burial in the Kinkora Church records. Her husband John sold the fifty-acre farm to their son, James, in 1911, and supposedly moved to Hamilton, Ontario. However records show that John died at the farm on August 11, 1911. Within the next year James sold the farm to his sister Margaret and her husband Bernard McDonnell. James then went to Hamilton and married Catherine Friel there. Much of the information on Margaret and John and their family comes

She most likely came to Perth County with the family in the 1850's, and most likely lived with her mother and some of her siblings on one of their farms. Eventually she met and married John Fitzgibbon and farmed on the north half of Lot 31 of 8th Concession of Ellice Township. She apparently died in Ellice Township; although there is no tombstone in the Kinkora Cemetery, there is a record of her burial in the cemetery in the Church records. Her husband John sold the fifty-acre farm to their son, James, in 1911, and then
may have moved to Hamilton, Ontario. If so he returned to Ellice Township where he died in August 1911.

Margaret was born in Stratford, Ontario, daughter of the late John and Isabelle O'Brien. Beloved wife of the late James Joseph (JJ) Walsh who predeceased her April 20, 2000. Loving mother of Maureen Anne Walsh, Patrick James Walsh (Carrie). Dear sister of Jerry O'Brien (Anne). Also survived by a sister-in-law Vicky O'Brien and several nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by brothers and sisters Joseph, Francis (Roz), Jerome, Vincent (Barb) and Mary Hood (Jim). Margaret was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Stratford and a 60 year member of the Catholic Woman's League. Friends

In August 2008 Shirley Mecke called the residence in Hamilton, Ontario in which James and Catherine had lived. A grandson of Catherine and James, most likely a son of
John and Christine, answered the phone and was currently living in the house. He said he was elderly and blind, and that he was the last surviving member of his generation,
had no contact with anyone else in the family, and would offer no further information about other descendants of James and Catherine.

Bernard McDonnell was supposedly a bootlegger, operating out of his home in Mitchell, Ontario. According to a letter from Madeleine McGuinness one Saturday evening after he had closed his home for the night, five young men from the Dublin, Ontario area came to his home at 1 A. M. Sunday morning wanting to buy beer. When he refused to sell them, they attacked and killed him. Three of the men involved in the attack were identified as Ryan Jordan, Tom Gormley and J. J. Krauskopf. They were remanded to jail on a manslaughter charge. Outcome of the case is unknown.
