      Georgina joined the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph(CSJ) and took the religious name of Sister Mary Bernice CSJ on 10 Jul 1921. Sister Bernice was a Registered Nurse (RN) by profession. Sister Bernice lead a caring life as a Sister of St Joseph and a Registered Nurse. She worked in different St Joseph's Hospitals, e.g. Chatham and and London. Sister Bernice celebrated her Silver Jubilee (25 years)as a Sister of the Congregation of St. Joseph (CSJ) in 1946. In her latter years she resided at St. Joseph's Motherhouse in London. On her Golden Jubilee (50 years)in 1971, Sister Bernice enjoyed the company of her brothers and sisters; Rose, Blanche, Mary Ann, Peter, Anthony and Nola at Mount St Joseph Motherhouse in London. In 1981 Sister Bernice celebrated her Diamond Jubilee (60 years).

      Her Obituary read: Sister M. Bernice Etue. At Mount St. Joseph Ignatia Infirmary on Wednesday 30 June, 1982, Sister Bernice Etue, of the Sisters of St. Joseph in the 62nd year of religious life. Dear daughter of the late Alexander Etue and Amelle (sp-Emelie) Geromette. Dear sister of Anthony Etue, of London, Miss Nola Etue, of Windsor, Peter Etue, Mrs Theresa Gokey, Mrs Blanche (John) Adams, Mrs Mary Ann (Clarence) Nieman, all of Michigan. Predeceased by brother Joseph (Frederick) and sisters Marie Exelia, Marie Clarissa, Maria Rose and Marie Christine. Resting at Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse, Richmond Street North, London. Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Chapel on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Internment in St. Peter's Cemetery on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Hinnegan & O'Neil Funeral Directors.
    • Sister Bernice Etue CSJ RN

      Marie Georgina (Bernice) was born on November 4, 1892. She was the daughter of Alexander Etue and Amelia Geromette.  

      her Siblings were:  Marie Exelia, Marie Clarisse, Joseph Frederick, Marie Rose Ann, Marie Christine, Blanche, MaryAnn, Peter Alexander, Theresa, Anthony Maurice, and Nola.  They lived on a farm near Drysdale.

      Marie trained as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chatham, Ontario, graduating in 1916.  After graduation she worked in Dr. J. Rutherford;s office in Chatham for four years and assisted him in the operating room at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chatham.

      She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of London at Sacred Heart Convent and on January 3, 1921 she received the habit and was given the religious name, Sister M. Bernice.  Sister professed first vows on January 3, 1923 and final vows on August 16, 1926 in Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, London.  She became a registered nurse in 1923 and was assigned to Mount St. Joseph Orphanage, then to the convent in Kingsbridge and to Our Lady of the Convent in Windsor, Ontario.

      Between 1930 and 1967 Sister Bernice was assigned to the Community's hospitals in London, Chatham and Sarnia often working as night supervisor.  

      Sister Bernice also spent three years at St. Joseph's Manor in Windsor where she cared for the orphaned children.  In 1965 Sister Bernice was appointed night nurse in the infirmary at Mount St. Joseph, London and in 1969 she became a resident there.

      Sister Bernice was known during her life of service for her generosity towards all with whom she worked.  In her early years she loved gardening and was remembered as being innovative in her work.  Sister Bernice Etue died in the infirmary on June 30, 1982.
